Ultimate fan-less dream computer
Dream Computer
Many people have wondered what would make the best computer. What would you really need or want in the ultimate computer.
Here I will show you what would make the ultimate silent computer. For this build we will use AMD because when you do a cost versus performance analysis AMD wins.
I have also decided for this build to talk about how to make it part of your living room experience. In part to be able to do that you will want to give it the appearance of being a part of your stereo setup. To be able to do that you will want to choose a stylish case like the one above by Thermaltake. They are one of the very best case designers.
Motherboard
The motherboard for the ultimate home computer should have enough PCI-e ports on it and have the ability to give you the fastest connections possible on the market. It should also support the quickest memory available on the market. Right now a board that delivers on that is the ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ motherboard.
Memory
Everyone in the technology community has heard of the name Kingston and that is because it is top end memory. Kingston's memory has very quick response times and highly stable. Kingston memory is also backed by excellent warranties. When picking memory it's not about the amount of the memory but the speed of the memory. Your computer will only ever need about 2 gigabytes worth of memory for most people. What really matters here is the speed it can perform at. The quicker, the better. So invest in speed over the amount.
Hard drive
Hard drives have changed a lot over the years and now there is a new technology on the market called SSD. This stands for Solid State Disk or Solid State Drive.
They are the quickest hard drive currant on the market. Having just one is very good but having two is even better if you run the drives in Raid 0 mode. This means the two drives will act as one. The reason for this boost in speed is because when data is written to drives in this configuration, the two drives are written to at the same time dividing the data equally between the two, thus resulting in a boost in read / write speeds.
When it comes to storage SSD's will for most people never supply enough storage for you because of the cost. So what you should do is purchase a regular external SATA hard drive with enough storage to back your information on to. Besides that you should always back-up regardless.
When it comes to large standard Serial ATA hard drives, Seagate is at the top of the drive market. They are both extremely reliable and provide excellent storage capacities. They range from starting capacities of about 250 Gigabytes to 3 Terabytes and continue to climb in capacities.
Power Supply
Power supplies can be tricky to choose. What one should you get and how many watts do you need?
To calculate the power usage needed for the computer you want to build, type power supply calculator on any search engine and you will find what you need to calculate how much power you will require to run your computer.
When building the ultimate computer you need it to be silent, so here is your solution: "Seasonic SS-460FL". Seasonic is not only a very good manufacturer of power supplies but this one is both fan-less and makes for a nice tidy neat job of running cables with out having extras in your case taking up space for nothing. With 460 Watts of power you should have enough to power because the efficiency of the power supply exceeds that of regular ones. If you need even more power another great solution is the "KINGWIN STR-500". Both power supplies are fan-less.
Video cards
Many of us grew up playing video games and we still do play video games on our computers. To be able to play the latest and greatest games requires you have a video card that is able to do the job. If you want to increase performance go with a dual video card setup with a SLI configuration. To be able to do this make sure the video cards you choose supports SLI. The other configuration is crossfire and is not as good. If your looking to keep things fan-less you will find for video cards this is a challenge. The best your going to be able to manage is a high-end mid range video card setup, unless you go with ones that have fans and go through the trouble of removing them and go to the expense of liquid cooling your video cards.
CPU and heat sink
AMD is a fantastic CPU for the cost vs. performance. Stick with it and get the best you can afford. It's the brain of your computer. The faster, the better. In the picture to the left here you are able to see a AMD3+ FX CPU with 8 cores.
When keeping the cpu cool one of the very best fan-less solutions on the market is "Thor's Hammer". With double layer heat pipe direct touch technology it makes for one of the very best solutions for keeping your CPU cool. Make sure to keep it clean of dust at all times and provide it with good air flow. If you find your computer gets to warm you may need to invest in some ultra quite case fans to move the air around.
Sound card
There are many choices available for music and sound but what one to choose is the biggest question. After doing some research I have found one of the highest rated sound cards available on the market today. The eCLARO by a company called HT Omega is one of the very best sound cards you can find for both price point and quality. This sound card comes with a optical cable connection. This is the best type of connection to allow you to be able to connect to your stereo system and allow you to use your home stereo speakers, resulting in superb sound. If your stereo dose not have this optical cable connection on the back of it you can also get a cable that goes from 3.5mm to 2 RCA audio connections.
Optical drives
Optical drives are completely up to you and what you wish to purchase. You can either go with Blue-ray or DVD-RW. Both are great solutions and provide excellent quality for sound and picture. The best solution I have found for both price and quality is LG. It dose exactly what it's suppose to.
